ABOUT JAMES
James Jarwin Chicano’s journey began in Borongan City, Samar, where his early years were shaped by movement, discipline, and a love for adrenaline through sports like basketball, skateboarding, and BMX. His path into tattooing wasn’t driven by certainty—but by courage and the willingness to try something new.
He started as an apprentice in a tattoo shop, learning the fundamentals from the ground up. Watching friends compete in tattoo events sparked his passion, but it was the guidance of Ricardo “Dado” David and Joyzee that truly shaped his journey. Their mentorship helped transform his interest into a deeper commitment to the craft.
With six years of experience, James has developed strong foundations in linework, pointillism, and neo-traditional tattooing, while continuously expanding his skills into realism. His work reflects growth, patience, and a genuine connection to the stories of his clients.
Now part of Needle Z for over five years, James has steadily built his presence in the tattoo community, competing in various events including the Dutdutan Tattoo Convention and other local competitions—each experience shaping his discipline and artistic direction.
Guided by his belief—“Never lose hope.”—James approaches every piece with purpose, carrying a simple promise to his clients:
“My art, your story.”
From a determined apprentice to a growing artist, James’ story is one of persistence, mentorship, and continuous self-improvement.
